Starnge IE7 behaviour

  halothane 13:01 11 May 07

My computer uses XP (SP2), updates updated.
BT broadband.

My 'Yahoo widgets', spybot, adaware, spycatcher etc will all connect to the internet fine, and download away.

But, if I try to log on using the IE shortcut, I can only get DNS failure message (You are not connected to the internet - etc)
The router is ok and the line diagnostics are OK.

Anybody any ideas?

(I tried installing firefox to see if there was an IE7 specific problem, but it too did not work with the same error message.

Try control panel.Network connections,Right click local area connection and press repair. Also try Control panel,Administrative tools,Services,Scroll down to DNS client ,Make sure it is set to automatic.

Thanks Buteman.
I'll give it a go tonight.

Problem solved.

For now anyway.

The 'Repair' didn't work, but setting the DNS client to automatic did. I think.

I also looked at the Norton Firewall, and it was blocking IE7 from accessing a DNS client. Setting this to 'always' and

Internet available.

Is there something in the last MS Update that has upset so many computers?

Yes there was,A lot of folk had to do a system restore to sort the problem out.

Tried to find the problem for you,But can only get as far back as the 10th of may,Updates were on the 8th,I am sure you could go back a lot further before they upgraded PCA.Maybe someone else may be able to tell you what the problem was,
