SSL Problem

Hello,
first time poster...

I recently bought an Auction website to go up against the behemoth eBay.
I bought my '.co.uk' instant domain name, which the software people registered with 'Whois' on their Server.
I then bought an SSL, but when I apply for the Certificate, they need to obtain an automatic email to confirm who I am. I keep getting errors backsaying they can't
I have been onto the domain people who said that I need to put myself in the 'public domain', but that didn't work.
They then said that the domain I have is not allowed an SSL.
Is this correct?
If so, what do I need?
Obviously, like all new sites, I am trying to do it cheap, but make the site secure.
I bought the SSL from 'godaddy' for approx. £5,00, but it does what I want it to, but I can't get it to work!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as to what to do.
I'm a novice at this, so if you can give me an idiot's guide, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks for reading my post and look forward to your expert advice.

Regards, Craig
