I've encountered a spyware infection for the first time on my laptop using win98se , but managed to interrupt its installation. it uses a file called atiupdpl.exe in windows\system folder, which I can't seem to remove from the startup folder, or directly from the system folder. can someone please advise ?

If you have tried with Ad-Aware and the other "normal methods", have you tried Safe Mode and then a Find and delete?

You could also try removing it in safe mode
