My Samsung 8x8x32 takes 20 minutes to fill a 650MB formatted CD RW (usable space 571MB) with back up data, via Direct CD. The 1.0Gig PC is doing nothing else at the time. How long would it take a new 52x24x52 rewriter to do the same job? Is it worth upgrading? It takes forever for a big back up job currently. Any ideas?

If your back up job is compressing the data, which it probably is if it's a proper back up program, that is why it is taking so long.

Don't necessarily blame your drive.

About 3 mins (approx).

If you want it to be done faster then upgrade.

PS do not use directCD.

Be aware that 52x specification should say 52x - maximum.

The speed varies throughout the writing of the CD - slower at the start, then it speeds up.

It also varies depending on how the media are rated, and how fast your system is tested at.

Nevertheless it will be much faster!!
