Hello
Sorry if this is a dull question, but does anyone recommend a very user-friendly, free to download spam blocking programme / software.
I have looked on the PCA download section but I am not sure which one is the most suitable.
For some reason the amount of spam I get has risen massively out of all proportion in the last 4 months and I am now well and truly fed up with offers of generic viagra, dates in my area, etc etc.
Many thanks for your advice and help/

click here for a selection of anti spam tools and ratings. The most popular here is Mailwasher, though I'm currently using AvirMail click here

I agree that Spam Pal takes some beating. click here for my full explanation on another posting. I put two postings on the thread, read them both. I would avoid spam programs which completely delete or bounce back spam, as they may do this to an e-mail which you actually want.

I am not a believer in bouncing emails for the most part - if only because of the fact that most have forged "from" addresses. One of my yahoo addresses was recently used as a "from" address and got filled with bounced / dead email.

But mailwasher is an excellent tool for marking email for deletion and with a few weeks of use will quickly learn what is spam. Further, it allows the user to create filters which will automatically be deleted. For example, many emails have the addresee name in the sublect, eg [email protected] will come up as "Lú-Tzé, prescriptions with no need for appointment" in the subject. I have a filter to mark such email for deletion automatically. It is here that the real power of MailWasher lies.

I use Mailwasher also, but a lot of garbage still gets thro'. I recently sent an E-mail to my MP asking why the Government doesn't put pressure on the ISP's to help block this rubbish as they certainly have the technology.
He replied by snail mail to say he also suffers spam. Despite the House of Commons monitoring system, half of 300 E-mails received after Whitsun break were spam !
He is to tabling a parliamentary question on the matter - some progress !

I too have been swamped lately with pop ups, mostly from companies offering me software to stop pop ups! Since, Iam told, Microsoft messenger is the gateway for these intrusions, surely it is up to Microsoft to sort this growing problem out? By the way I've tried Mailwasher, and at least two other spam blockers all without any success, Ive eventually been forced to disable Messenger.
