Sp3 want's to install itself

Hi folks,I have my windows updates set to notify me but don't download or install.I usually get the option what updates to download and install but windows has downloaded 1 update and I'm prompted to install each time I boot. The only update I get when I search is sp3 but I'd rather not install it just now. When I switch the computer off it want's to install itself. There's an option to switch of without installing updates but I'm sure when I'm in a hurry and not thinking I'll sitch off the computer normally. Is there a way to disable it?Thanks.

A related problem.

Obviously I do not now want to install SP3 at all,but like you I was nagged to install it,so I just switched off automatic updates which of course means you have the red shield reminding you that they are off.
If anyone knows of a better way.

You can get rid of that annoying red shield as follows:-
Start ,Control Panel (select Classic View here),Security Centre.
Under Resources select the bottom option - change the way Security Center alerts me. Untick the automatic updates box.
No more red shield.
