SP2 won't install

  pj123 19:17 21 Mar 08

I had a hard drive failure running XP with SP2.

Couldn't do a repair so reformatted and installed Win XP Home SP1.

Put my other CD with SP2 in but I keep getting

"Setup cannot copy"

Then various files, eg. authz.dll query.dl_ and query.dll

Started again but got the same thing.

Downloaded a fresh SP2 (266mb) from the Microsoft site but that also gives me the same sort of error messages, but different files?

Any ideas please?

When I had that problem it turned out to be one bad stick of memory.

Sorry guys, none of those worked, but have now got it working.

Reformatted and used my neighbours XP Home CD and entered the number off the sticker on the back of my PC. Installed SP2 no problem and activated via the internet.

Looks like my XP CD is corrupt/had it.

Have now cloned this drive to another hard disc.

Ticked as resolved.

Thanks all.
