Soundcard with phono input for turntable

  bjh 20:48 14 Apr 05

Can anyone recommend a soundcard - preferably cheap as poss - that has an amplified line in suitable for connecting a record player to?

I successfully copied all my records to CD a year ago, and then passed on my amp.... now my neighbours have found out I know how to do it, & have found their old records.... hence I want a cheapie.

Any suggestions welcome....

To my knowlege you won't find a soundcard to do this. If you just have the turntable you will need an amp with the right gain an eq to get the results you are looking for. This is what I had to do to get my turntable to work with my sound card.

Hi, I would go for SoundBlaster, I believe I am right in saying that they all have line-in sockets, normally mini-jack type, but easy to get cable with two-phono one end mini-jack the other.

but as Night Ryder says the line should come from Audio Amp/HiFi, not direct from Record Player.

Yes will need a pre amp.

I just connect the Record player speaker plugs to line in, I got a cable from a shop a long time ago but it would be very cheap to buy at a Computer Fair

Do you have any HiFi stuff at all?

PS I also connected a Friends turntable to the Mic in to record and it work. But not as good as using the amp and just removing speakers to plug in

Is this a record player or as I am thinking just a record "deck"

I went through this trick only 2 weeks ago on this forum
Old LP.s to put onto CD.
The TT needs pre amping etc., etc.,
This is what I did
The TT connected to audio system.
Taped on to audio cassete
Audio cassete transferred to Walkman
a double ended lead from computer fair cables stall
[99p] Walkman headphone socket to line in on PC
A free converted program such AV Rack
And Bobs your uncle.
