Sound volume for wave changes itself to zero

I have a SB Audigy 2 ZS sound card and recently the wave volume control has started to reset itself to zero volume, i.e. silent. It is not muting the wave sound only reducing the volume level to zero. Simply moving the slider to the required level sorts it, as does clicking on the 'default' button.
This happens whether the computer is turned off overnight or not. Sometimes all is ok for up to four days and then the level changes after the computer has been left alone for a while.
I tried updatimg the drivers but this hasn't made any difference.
Anyone any ideas please?
