An idiot here !!

Can you use your Hi-Fi headphones to listern to music etc on your PC ?.

If so, how do you do it.

I've put my headphone jack into my DVD Rom but do not get any sound comimg through them.

What am I doing wrong ?.

I have...

5.1 speakers
XP Home
Radeon 9700 graphics card

Any advice is welcome

Don't suppose there's a volume control nearby? Alternatively, plug into the sound card directly.

Hi, If you have a head phone socket on the front of one of your speakers, plug them in there.
You should now hear the music in the headphones.

There is and I've tired that but still nothing.

Will try your other suggestion

hi ritchbee....goto the properties for the dvd drive, where it says enable digital sound for this drive and take out the tick ...
you should now be able to hear sound/music through the headphone socket ....

Were should you look to check ?

I have Creative Inspire 5.1 speaker system and these are working ok ?.

Could I have a faulty headphone jack on the DVD Rom player ?

Not sure whether this still applies with Win XP but for this to work the drive had to be connected to the soundcard directly. If you buy a retail drive it usually has the wire connection included. Did you instal it yourself?

No installation done myself all software was pre-loaded prior to delivery (Shepley Computers)
