Sound and no sound

1. CDs play fine.
2. Double click sound files in the media folder and the sound plays.
3. Set sounds to play on certain actions eg. opening a window and silence.
I've checked my onboard sound device is working, well it must be for 1 and 2 to work. I've checked volume settings, mute etc. and ditto. I think this might have happened since I installed 'Quicktime'.
Uninstalled 'Quicktime' but still no sound.
4. Some programms won't even run as it detects a sound problem.
Any thoughts anyone?

I had a similar problem after installing REAL player.

Everything seemed to work except incoming sound on WebCam conversations.

I did an uninstall and then a recovery to the point before I installed real player.

Sorry to be a pain. Do you mean uninstall real player or WinXP? Cheers"

Andrew, It is better to post on the forum so everyone can see all the comments made.

I de-installed Real-Player (to get rid of the dross 1st) but I also did a restore to a recovery point before I installed it to recover the system settings.

This worked for me but I dont know relevant to your situation this is.
