Please help. My sound has vanished. When I go to Control Panel > sounds, they are greyed out. I have removed & reinstalled Real Player about 5 times - it makes no difference. I run W98SE

Have you tried re-installing the soundcard

Hi, You will need to go into device manager and if there are any Yellow exclamation marks against any of your entries you will need to re-instal the drivers. Cheers, Bill

Thanks for that Bill. I do indeed have a driver marked iwth a yellow exclamation mark - when I follow the instructions and try to reinstall the driver from the Startup disk - it cannot find it.

Hi, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We now need to know if your sound is onboard, or, if it is on a card (PCI or whatever). If your sound is onboard the drivers will be on your motherboard disc. If you dont have the disc the motherboard manufacturer will have the drivers for your model on their website. The same applies to the sound card. Cheers, Bill
