Sound Device problems

I recently istalled Win XP SP2 on my machine. The first problem I had was that there was no sound device. So I manually installed a sound driver from the Add New Hardware screen. Now the sound works but no matter what I do to the volume control on the bottom left of the screen The volume will not change even when I mute the thing. Also I can not record any thing with the sound recorder program. HELP

Are you sure you've got the right sound driver installed? Try installing another version or check the manufacturer's website to see if here's a whole package you can download and install.
