Sound Compatibility

I recently bought an Acer TravelMate 2303LC laptop and an Evolution MK425C USB keyboard. There is a delay from hitting a key on the keyboard to the sound being reproduced by my sequencer. The delay does lessen, after a short while, but is still noticable on fast music.
It has been suggested, by Evolution, that the sound chip in the laptop, may not be suitable for recording. Acer says that it should be and would be prepared to take the machine in, for testing.
If the chip is not suitable, then it would be far better to simply buy a sound card that is.
Can anyone tell me what the true situation is?
