I have an onboard sound card (Cmedia AC97), which for some reason stopped working and i bought a new PCI sound card but had to same problem. The drivers are correctly installed but to no avail. I would prefer to use the PCI card but do i need to disable he other one first

cheers

try disabling onboard ac97 in the bios.

You will need to disable the onboard sound this is done through the BIOS when the pc is booting up theres a message like press F2 to enter setup look for an entry that refers to onboard sound and turn it off

If you have the motherboard driver disk for your machine reload the sound driver from there. Should fix the problem.
