Sound Card problems

I recently removed a faulty sound card, but now every time I boot up, windows says it has detected a new PCI multi-media device, I haven't replaced the sound card yet, or installed any other hardware. I am running Win 98 se
Can anybody help?

it may be another device revealed after freeing up a port/dma channel (is that what I meant?)

To 1st RHA, I've tried to run through set up but because I don't know what the device is, I've no idea where to tell windows to look for the drivers, so the set up is always incomplete

Did you remove the drivers for it in device manager before you removed the card? If not reinsert the card and restart and then remove the drivers and then turn off and remove the card, reboot and see if that improves things.
