Sound Card Drivers

I have just reinstalled Windows 98 on my son's pc. We have reloaded all the drivers for the motherboard and graphics card. These work fine. However, we cannot get the drivers to install for the SB Live sound card. We end up locking-up the pc and getting the infamous blue screen fatal error. Rundll32 error appears. Do we need to disable on-board sound? If so, how?Can anyone help please???

If all you have have done is format the hard drive, install the operating system, then the drivers but not reset the bios. Windows has probably put generic drivers on for the sound card.

Go to device manager and look for any yellow exclamation marks. Delete them and reboot with the sound card driver in the cdrom.

If you have reset the cmos \ bios then you may have to enter there to disable the on-board sound.
