i have a sony vaio vgn-fw21m, my question is that i have chosen to make my computer go to sleep when i close the lid but i dont know how to awaken it when i reopen the lid or is there a way of maybe just turn off display when closing the lid, my power options does not give me this option, i often have come back to the computer through the day but do not want to leave the lid open nor do i want to shut down every time

After sleep, when you lift the lid just press the power button briefly.

I prefer my Compaq Presario Laptop (8 months old, W7) not to wake on mouse, cos it is by my armchair and I bump it when I stir my arse.

But I did stit to investigate sleep mode...

Get to Device Manager via Control Panel.

Right click keyboard and/or mouse and/or touchpad.
Select Power Management Tabs....Allow This Device to Wake etc etc.

Oh and I can't turn off my display either....stupid bloody designers.

Best workaround is shortcut to power options or icon in taskbar.

Display Off after 1 min. Can still keep Sleep as whatever or Never.
