Sony Handycam Firewire connectivity Win XP

Previously had a Win Me 1MHz PC which fried itself after CPU fan fell off! I enjoyed DV editing using Ulead via a firewire PCI card.

Bought a new PC in order to improve DV editing with film from my sony TRV 25E.

New PC has a Firewire port at the front, and USB at the back.

Software Win Movie maker 2, Imagemaker (bundled with camera), Ulead video Studio 4, Roxio Videowave.

Could not get any programme to recogise that camcorder was present.

Spent two weeks of my spare time trawling the net and I have eventualy solved the USB problem.

I still cannot get any hint of a connection when I use the Firewire port with any of the above software.

Neither Sony nor MS websites seem to offer any solutions.

Can anybody help?

I fitted my own firewire card and (from memory) had to install drivers for the card.......could that be the problem, does XP not install them as standard (don't know cause I use win2k).

Sorry if I wasted your time but like I said your back at the top for a while
