Sony Ereader problem

My friend has an ebook and seems to have a problem getting it to configer with his XP SP3 laptop. He has spoken to Sony who suggest it is SP3 preventing it from connecting. They have also suggested he ask Samsung who supplied his laptop if a driver is needed.

The supplied software does not appear to supply a driver. When connected it shows USB on the Ebook and the laptop showed Found new hardware and that is as far as it goes.

Has anyone had and resolved this problem.

My computer does not show a Ebook or mass storage device while the book is connected.

Any suggestions?

We do know that all is well when installed on a Vista.
