I have a exturnal hard drive connected to my computer that I use to store graphic files on, is it possible to run software from this drive

no it has to install in a windows partion, into windows program files, the only way you could run programs for the external drive would be to use portable software.

I have all my programmes (the actual software) in the Programme files as jamesd1981 says but all the stuff generated - such as Photoshop photos, iTunes music, Word, e Mail on a separate partition - or coul be on an external HD
What software is it? What OS?
