software raid

Anyone know any software which can implement raid without raid controller.

I thought RAID had two functions:

1. To preserve data in case one drive fails

2. To speed up data access by sharing the load between two drives.

I want to use two HD to speed up video editing, but I cannot install a Raid controller in my computer. Raid can be done using Win2K, but need some tweaking, I was told some software can do this easily, but I cannot find any yet.

Any help?

Chances are that the bottleneck in your video editing is the processor, not the disc access. If this is the case, putting more work on the processor to implement RAID is unlikely to offer significant improvement.

Normal arrangement recommended for video editing is to keep your video files on a separate disc to the one with the operating system.
