Software has stopped 'seeing' my rewriter!!!

Hi guys.

Acer Travelmate 2350.

Put cd in drawer. There is power to it. It does that first slow spin, then nothing. Software does not see it.
No display.
Nothing on 'My Computer'.

I even set BIOS to 'cd 1st' & there is no pause, pc boots up from HDD immediately.

Any ideas please?

1. bad disc - clean disc and retry
2. bad data lead connection at drive or motherboard end. - remove refit to remake connections or change leads.
3. bad IDE driver check for errors in device manager - uninstall reinstall drivers
4. bad read laser - clean driver with lens cleaner - renew drive.

One easy check is to see if you can read a factory made installation disk for some heavyweight software? These almost never go "off"

If you can, then the RW or similar disk you had trouble with is corrupt but the drive itself is OK.

And vice versa.
