i have 58 processes using 442 Mb RAM. after i have booted i am using 338Mb RAM.

i have earlier today loaded and am using FreeRAM XP PRO as i was kindly recommended.

however does anyone know of a nice little freeware progs that gets rid of idle/stuck/"resident but not needed" processes that are still shown on task manager so that the RAM gets freed up?

What is loading up when you boot?

Go to run and type MSCONFIG. click startup and have a look for any programs you deem unnecessary, leave your anti-virus and firewall alone though.

Also check Startup in Programs on Desktop. As some start from there

click here Start Captor to permanently remove start entries.
