I would say a good monitor is:

1280x1024
PixPitch .0264
brightness 300 (ATLEAST)
contrast 450:1 (ATLEAST)
Response 20ms (ATMOST)

Whats your budget? I have looked an bought one prehaps i could sugest a few..

I picked up random PCA mag and had top 10 Flat Pannels in back not sure if all issues do but you can work out whats good or not from their specs and how highly placed etc
