Just bought an IPAQ 2210 which has both. Which is the best?

I've used both and cant say I noticed any difference. I think Smart Media is a bit cheeper though

Not much difference in speed.

SD is supposed to be more secure.

SM is an older technology and I think will eventually be replaced with the new XD card format.

Smartmedia is a bit long in the tooth now, is old technology and only goes up to 128Mb and is not likely to go beyond this for technical reasons. Secure digital is "on the up" and looks set to become one of the new standards but as its relatively new its still expensive compared with Smartmedia. There is no functional difference between the two as far as your equipment is concerned and its unlikely that you will notice any difference in use therefore I would opt for the cheaper Smartmedia until the price of SD drops.

So whats MMC then ?

MMC seems to be a less secure version of SD but they can both use the same slot.
