Belarc Advisor tells me that my SMART status is 'healthy'.

That's nice!!

However, how do I know that SMART is actually enabled in the BIOS? I wouldn't have a clue.

Can somebody give me an idiot's guide as to how to check whether it's enabled and, if it's not, how to enable it.

The setting, in the bios, would depend on the make and model of your motherboard.

On most motherboards, not all, you should find a switch in the bios to either enable or disable smart.

This is off an old motherboard bios. Note that smart is in the disabled position on this one. click here

If you install DriveSMART from:

it will keep a permanent eye on your hard drive and warn of any potential problems.

If it doesn't work you will have to Enable SMART in the Bios.

As Belarc Advisor records your drive is healthy then it would appear to be already enabled.
