This is a common problem, you probably need to tweak your MTU/RWIN settings. Download TCP Optimizer from click here set the slier to your connection speed, select your network adapter from the dropdown menu then click on Optimal settings, Apply then reboot the PC. Retest.

Thrie that, not sure what I was doing but alas, no help.

Tried MTU tool, No help. Tried booting from a Unix disc - No help, same speed download.

I'm thinking this may very well be a hardware problem but where to start looking?

Are you using Laptop Wireless?

  Pastor Joe 18:52 01 Feb 08

No wireless on anything the Netgear is a wired router.

And try your Connection click here

Tuning didn't help. Just reformatted disk and reinstalled windows. Same outcome, no better download speed.
