Slow internet

I'm using 512k package.
Lately I've been noting it's been quite slow.
Speed tests such as click here show 250-300k rates rather than about 470k which it used to be.
Any ideas?
Also, would anyone know what the optimum settings are for 512k bb in DrTCP?

Speed tests can vary quite a bit depending on how many others are using the network at the same time, you will be connected to the net along with up to 50 others giving a contention ratio of 50:1, if all 50 people are using their connection at the same time you will notice a drop in throughput.

PCPitstop is a very popular site and the same applies there, lot's of people connected = slow speeds.

Your ISP's home page should be able to give you more advice on this issue and also a speed test.

PS I should add that a speed test during the night or early morning when nobody else is online should give you a comparison.
