Slow computer

I have a computer running with a pentium 2.4 chip. It is using Windows Pro. I installed 256 mb of DDR400 memory but the graphics on the mother board is taking some of this. If I added another 256 mb memory would it help it run faster? I use it mainly for accounts and internet surfing.

You're running XP Pro with just 256MB of memory shared with the graphics? Yes, that will be painfully slow. Stick in another 256MB, and turn off any visual bells and whistles.

Open control panel and go to performance and maintenance. Here chose adjust visual effects, select the option for best performance (and add ram)...

Thanks for your help. I will see if I can find the best price on another 512mb and add it to the 256mb, should be better then. I have changed the visual effects setting to Best Performance and it appears to be better even just doing this.

Just make sure that your motherboard doesn't insist you have matched pairs of RAM - you might not be able to add a 512MB stick to a 256 stick.
