My computer stops at the c: prompt with a flashing cursor at the top of the screen for about 3 mins. If i leave it , it will boot up as normal, would like to know if the boot up process can be speeded up

If you go to the "Start" menu and click on the "Run" option. When the Run Dialogue shows, type in "Msconfig" and click run. Click in the white circle to the left of "Selective start up". Now uncheck the options "Autoexec.bat" and "Config.sys". Select "OK". Now restart your machine. Is there an improvement?

I can't untick the config.sys because it is shaded out.
I have unticked the autoexec.bat and it is now still the same as before but it hangs on verifying DMI pool data, not c: prompt
It is still not booting up any quicker
