Slow boot up after google earth update

Hi, both of my computers are running XP SP3 and have Google earth installed. Both were working perfectly until an automatic update was made to google Earth a couple of days ago. Now when I try to start Earth I get a message saying DirectX 9.0c needs to be loaded. I have checked and it is loaded but Earth still refuses to run, also in the laptop hen trying to open Earth it crashes to a bluescreen. I run Spybot2 and MSessentials and neither have reported a virus. Can anyone help please. Coincidently (perhaps) both computers are now very slow to boot to the start menu.

I would be tempted to system restore them to a point before the GE update
