I have had my new laptop for just over a month now.

I have now just noticed that i have a slight scratch in the corner of the lid. Should i be concerned

It is still under warrenty.

Unlikely your warranty will cover you for such a scratch - you will find it difficult to prove, after just over a month, that it was there when new as you have only "now just noticed" it.

If it's not a Crack then it should be OK

My laptop is about 20months old now and is covered in small scratches and is working fine after all it is only a plastic shell

Unlikely any warranty will cover a scratch, unless the warranty covers the laptop for accidental damage, as a laptop will not scratch as a result of a manufacturing fault, it is normally if it gets caught or something.

Cracks are different, in rare cases, these can happen say if a screw on the hinges is over-tightened or something - that is a manufacturing issue, but you might have to prove that it is...
