Slave HDD Data no longer accessable

On boot up the BIOS hangs at the point it would access the MBR. This is the 2nd time this has happened and I resigned myself to scrapping it and instead loading windows on the drive that was my slave. When booting windows from the CD it then shows the drive partition but won't let me install windows without deleting the current partition. I don't want to do that because I will lose the data that was originally on the HDD. Can anyone offer me some advice.

You can only install an OS into the Primary Partition of the hard disk and it shounds as if the existing partition is either set already using this leave the rest of the hard disk as the extended partition. You will need a good partition manager for this. If you have Partition Magic, you will find that the CD is bootable. Move your existing data to the extended partition and you will then have full ability to use your promary partition for the OS.
