Hi.

I currently have a compaq presario 5000 model 5146ea internet pc with 512mb ram running windows me.

I installed a western digital caviar special edition 120gb hard drive about ten minutes ago as slave.

The drive seems to have been detected by the BIOS, but there is no drive icon in my computer for the new drive.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

You need to right click on "My Computer" then choose disk management, from the window that opens, click on "Manage disk" You will see your drive there, click on it and follow screen instructions to format, it will then be shown in your "My Computer" window. You can also re-arrange your drive letters from there as well. j.

I don't have an option for disk management when I right click on my computer?

Sorry, not familiar with ME. does it say the word. "Manage". If so, left click on that, then from the window that comes up, choose "Disk Management. j.

Sorry for that, I'm using XP and as mentioed above, not familiar with ME, but someone will be able to help. Don't worry though, it will turn out to be something quite straightforward in the end. j.

You need to format the disc via dos, or you can use a 3rd party application such as partition manager

There's a tutorial here on how to format / partition in dos using fdisk NB this will removie all data on the HDD. click here
