what mobo do you have?

I think you may have to install the raid drivers prior to OS install, and when you reboot enter the raid function to set up the raid as "Normal" which supports 1,2 or 3 disks etc. I may be wrong so wait for someone more conversant with raid and sata to confirm or advise otherwise.

not specifically familiar with the board either, but I got the same mobo chipset (nforce3). AFAIK and what I've heard, the board should has native support for SATA and you don't need a 3rd party driver for single SATA drive. your OS should be able to recognize the drive as long as you enable the relevant SATA port in the BIOS prior to OS installation.
