Please look at above and tell me whether these will be enough to create a simple peer to peer network. Both computers will be running xp pro. Where can I find how to set up network. PS usb card is for extra ports not for network. Help would be great.

You cannot link us to items in your shopping cart. However if you paste the quickfind codes on this thread, we chan check them at ebuyer

in the search box.

However, these items are what I think you would need, assuming neither the PC or laptop currently has a network (may be called Ethernet / WAN / LAN) port.

FOR A WIRED NETWORK

Quickfind Codes:

PC Network Card: 31095

Laptop Network Card: 40460

Crossover Cable: 43779 (assuming computers are in same room

or if you need to share broadband internet

Router: NTL or Telewest (Cable): 48411
Router: All Other Providers(ASDL): 48409

And instead of the crossover cable:

order 2 x : 43772

FOR A WIRELESS NETWORK

PC Card: 52898

Laptop Card: 42909

Hope this helps:

I spent a while compiling that post and did not check back before posting.

THat list will be fine, but do you need a network card for your laptop?

Also - I notice you have chosen a more expensive NIC - if this has features you want then great - but I have used the Ebuyer Value brand many times and have used more than 10 of their Network Cards and have not yet had a problem with any of them. (QF code 31095)

If the laptop already has the ethernet port then this should be enough for the job. AS for how to do it. see here

Hopefully one of these should help you, but with XP its easy once you've installed your hardware and the drivers, plug the cable in and ensure the network ports are enabled in "network connection" on the control panel. Then set up an home network. Be careful if you have a firewall though, I would disable it until you have the network up and running

Good Luck

You don't need the Dynamode PCI USB card for networking, so I assume you are buying this for another reason.

Thanks for all the help. The laptop has ethernet connection. Will crossover cable allow the laptop to use the broadband on my pc. It is a pc card adsl modem. I realise the pc will have to be on. Thanks again for your help

Sure will you have to allow internet sharing on both PC and also within the firewall if you have one.
