silence that modem

I have win 98SE and IE 6. I know that you can silence the dial up screech that it makes, but I cant remember how to do it. I think it was a code that I entered on one of the properties tabs. Could it be that I have recently installed tescos any-time browser.

modem is a rockwell 56K V90 I think

thanks in anticipation

Control Panel\Modem there is a sound slider in there that you should be able to disable the sound. you will need to check all to find it

thanks woodchip

checked the slider and it was at 0. then under control panel I found 2 modems installed; probably when recently i moved the modem to a different PCI slot to accomodate a cooling fan, solved by removing the excess and reboot.

Sometimes it's best to remove both modems and reboot and windows will reload the right one when you restart. If it's switched on
