Sidekick 99 and Windows XP

  Peter 21 Jul 08

I am trying to get Sidekick 99 working with Windows XP, but without success. I seem to remember someone putting up a message that they had succeeded. Has anyone done so please?

Came across this sometime ago, can't confirm it's correct or not, I've not got Sidekick any more so I can't 'play'

If you try it and it's ok, please post back to let us know.

To correct the error you look for a file named Wininit.ini and rename it to Wininit.old.
After doing this Sidekick 99 should install as it should.

Thanks for the info kiaora, I will give it a try and post back.

Thanks for your help kiaora. I did as you suggested and, sure enough, it worked. I have been able to use the setup programme and install Sidekick 99 under Windows XP Pro.

The Wininit.ini file which I renamed is 0 byte in size and is dated when Windows was installed. Under Windows 95 & 98 the Wininit.ini file is produced when an installation programme needs to reboot to complete installation and is renamed as Wininit.bak once it has been used after the reboot. Because of this I was surprised to find that a Wininit.ini file existed, but it did and following your instructions I have been able to install Sidekick 99. Thanks again kiaora.

I will tick this thread as "Resolved."
