Shutdown woes

  ened 19:06 21 Mar 04

My XPpro machine is hanging on shutdown.
Any ideas as to why?
New additions are:
Asdl modem
Free version of Avg 6

I assume one of these is causing the problem and any advice/experience would be welcome.

slow winded but proccess of elimination might help,
turn off/uninstall apps in turn to see if your machine restores itself to when it was shutting down properly

Get rid of the new items and then reinstall one at a time re-booting after each install (best practice anyway). Also try click here

Thanks to anon1

That was an informative page but did not resolve the problem.

I did learn that XP is shutting down and the problem is in fact that it is not powering down (reaches the final screen).

I am trying to avoid disabling/uninstalling everything etc.

I was hoping someone would read this and have experienced the same problem with one of the mentioned new additions.

I had similar problem when powering my ADSL modem
via a powered USB hub ie. it hung up on closedown.
Had to revert to powering modem directly from PC.

Any help?

Cheers de Art.
