Shutdown problems

I have a Gigabyte GA-8SIML motherboard which has SIS 7012 sound. When I install the sound driver the pc wont shutdown. I have tried getting the drivers from the Gigabyte website and from the packard bell site and no joy. I am thinking of putting a sound card in to solve the problem. Do you have any ideas?

Go into Control Panel, double click on sounds remove the shut down sound, it may be corrupt and is a known problem with shut down

PS also go through the Start\Help\Troubleshooting\Start\Shutdown problems
