Under Windows 98SE I was able to shut down my computer automatically using the command:
“C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 1x3”
in scheduled tasks.

I now use Windows XP Professional and find that the same formula does not work.

Is it possible to shut down XP automatically and if so how?

Can some one help, please

What do you want to do?

If its not a remote shutdown you could just press the power button on your computer.

Go to Control Panel, Power Options,Advanced. Under Power Buttons, select "shut down computer"

This will log out of XP and switch off your 'puter.
