shut down problem

i am running win2000 and when iattempt to shut down the computer stalls at the saving your settings window for about 4-5 mins,even if i haven't altered any settings,i have tried ctrl,alt,del to see if any programs are running in the background but nothing, can anyone help

ringbearer, I don't know anything about Windows 2000, but a search via Google found this suggestion here:-

"Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc Computer Configuration -> Admin Templates -> System -> Logon Change the value for "Maximum retries to unload and update user profile" to Enabled with a value of 5 or 10. If you want more info.... look at the right-hand pane once you're in that policy."
