shut down

i am presently running windows xp home edition,when shutting down it takes ages? any ideas?

A defrag and error check might do it. Also check option to 'scan for attempt recovery of bad sectors'.

i also have the same problem :(
taking ages means about 1min to shut down is this normal?

Try 1)start run (type) regedit
2)go to Hkey_local_machine/system/current control set/control
3)click on control folder
4)select Time to kill service time out
5)right click select Modify
6) Set to lower value than 2,000(mine was 20,000)
close
