Short of virtual memory message

Someone I know tells me that his PC (running Windows 2000) has recently started to occasionally put up a message claiming that it is short of virtual memory. He has plenty of spare hard disk space. Any ideas?

Tell him to set his Page File (virtual memory) to the System Managed option. I don't use 2000 but it will be at:

On the desktop, right click "My Computer"
Select "Properties" from the provided selection list.
Click the Advanced Tab on the top right of the window
Click the "Performance Options..." button
Click the Change button, the "Virtual Memory" window will open.

It would also be a very good idea to add more physical RAM.
