So I thought if the programs will not install for what ever reason- but it is still installed on the old drive why not copy it over?
Now I believed that whilst images of systems and clones and backup will transfer to new disks as a piece OK- trying to copy individual programs over is no no because elements exist in places that don't get copied over[such as registry for example]
But if all else fails - what's to lose - so I just did
Coupled the old drive via the IDE/USB cable found Mozilla ThunderBird in 'C' Programs and the prefetch files in Windows and sent them over to the appropriate places.

And it worked
Now how about that.

Hi Jack
Of all programs I am not surprised that it worked with Thunderbird as the approved and accepted method of deleting Thunderbird is just to delete the folder from program files - no uninstallation is necessary.
It would be interesting to know if you get the same scenario to work with other programs....a hae me doubts!
