Blueyonder supply users a network card for connecting to their broadband service. A customer of mine has this in a win98 machine and it happily connects to blueyonder.
This machine is networked with a windows XP machine (higher spec) but I cant seem to find a way to share this connection for the other machine to use. It would have been easier if it was a modem, but how can you share a network card?.

many thanks

You need to Install / enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). click here for an easy to follow guide. You will find it easier if the XP PC has the broadband connection plugged into it, as XP has better built-in networking tools. However, ICS is fairly automatic from W98se onwards, and still easy to do with W98.
