My granddaughter(19) asked me to get some case damage repairs done to her laptop. She is reasonably savvy, but I saw warnings in the W7 (she uses MSE and W7 Firewall). I found Windows Security Centre would not open properly , and firewall could be activated. In the end I found after a good deal of Googling, the use of SAS and MBAM etc, that the firewall and windows security centre had been knocked out by a spybot or similar. The security centre file was missing in the registry, as was the firewall one. I downloaded the files and put them in the registry and got it going.

There were also 16000 fragmented files. I wonder if other teenage PC's are like this (use of Facebook , etc), and poor "housekeeping?

Yes I used to clear more crap from teenage girls machines than boys.

With girls it was chat sites and downloading ringtones etc. Boys of course was usually porn sites:0)

I did not pry into files but noticed a programme (Baby look, or some such)that enabled you to up load your and your partners face photos, and it "predicted" your baby's looks!!. I googled it and saw that if you were not careful you could click on a semi porn link...

I have sternly warned her about facebook etc, and other such sites and once again suggested she scans for malware and suchlike more often, and to defrag. She does use iCloud for music, and is linked to one of our PC's for that.
