SFC /Scannow - Insert SP2 but wont recognise

When I run SFC /SCANNOW it asks me to insert Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 which I do. It then goes on to tell me that I have inserted the wrong disk but I don't know why.

I've tried different CD slots to no avail.

When I loaded a game on for my lad recently it told me that original Windows files had been replaced and I needed to insert the SP2 disk but I received exactly the same message when I did this i.e. wrong disk inserted.

Any ideas anyone please.

The PC seems to be running OK though but I thought that I should do as instructed.

Personally I have copied the I386 folder to my C drive and pointed SFC to it click here

It avoids problems like click here

but it is the SP 2 disc that it is asking for not the original Windows disc. I can't locate a I386 folder on that disc.

Do you have two drives, for instance a CD/DVD-ROM and a rewriter?

As the rewriter is the Master it will be the D drive - you are most likely using the ROM drive which will be E.

You need to extract the individual files from the huge executable;

Look under `get xp sp2 and extract it`

but there's no Resolution?

I have tried both drives thanks.

It is asking for the XP (original) disc, not the SP2 update.

What service pack version is your Windows XP CD?

If it is not SP2 you have obviously installed SP2 from another source and hence your error, it would be a good idea to Slipstream SP2 and burn it on to a CD for future use, have a look at click here and click here

It looks rather daunting but is not actually too complicated, alternatively you could use Autostreamer, instructions and download link at click here

It is asking for the SP2 disc not the XP one.

I don't have the XP disc. The shop didn't give me one.
