It should be sfc /scannow. note the space after "sfc"

  pharaoh2 11:20 26 Apr 07

Tried al that thanks and no luck.

  MAJ 11:25 26 Apr 07

Okay, but if you have any open windows, did you try closing them first, it can pop up under open windows. Don't forget to use the space and the forward slash in the command.

  Jack Hackett 11:25 26 Apr 07

try it from the command window

type CMD into the run box, click enter
on the resulting window at the command prompt type in
sfc /scannow <ENTER>

dont forget you may need the XP CD

  pharaoh2 11:53 26 Apr 07

typed CMD in run hit OK then got black box,
with C window\ system 32\ CMD.exe

in the box is C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>

  MAJ 11:55 26 Apr 07

Now type sfc /scannow after "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>" and hit the Return button on your keyboard.

  rodriguez 11:56 26 Apr 07

That's the box you want, now just type in sfc /scannow and press Enter and see if it works.

  pharaoh2 12:01 26 Apr 07

hi, did that and got C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>
next line down.

  MAJ 12:22 26 Apr 07

Now check your desktop see if the 'Windows File Protection' box has appeared.
